The Deep Sea Conservation Coalition’s (DSCC) 2020 Report informs on Fisheries, Deep Seabed Mining and Ocean Governance.
Presentation title: The evolution of international law and the regulation of activities on the high seas in the deep ocean: a conservation perspective.
This presentation was delivered by Matthew Gianni, DSCC Policy Advisor, to the Energy, Environmental and Climate Committee of the Belgium Parliament on 24 June 2020.
This report suggests the approach of Smart Mineral Enterprise Development (SMED). Further it focuses on cobalt to highlight the bottlenecks and to identify alternative supply sources based on current exploration and recycling technologies. Additionally it proposes ways in which the international legal framework could be adapted to promote investments in critical minerals; and consider ways by which the public sector can assist the private sector in developing a SMED process that would bring forth more efficient and effective entrepreneurial activity to meet our green technology needs.
