Organización Conservación de Cetáceos (OCC)

Further to a study into the habitat of whales off the Uruguayan coast (1995-1999 Organización Conservación de Cetáceos (Organization for the Conservation of Cetaceans) was set up in 2000. Since then, in addition to research, the organisation’s main objectives include education and marine conservation, integrating natural, socio-cultural and economic aspects. In relation to the latter, sustainable tourism (whalewatching) enables Uruguay’s coastal communities to contribute directly in the creation of the protected marine areas for whales in Uruguayan waters.
