ecOceanica is a Peruvian non-profit organization that was established in 2009. Its core mission is to promote and contribute to the conservation of marine ecosystems and their sustainable use in the Southeast Pacific Ocean, particularly in the northern coast of Peru.
The activities undertaken in the pursuit of that vital goal include scientific research, management of marine species, engaging local communities on environmental issues and inter-institutional collaboration with government agencies.
ecOceanica leads projects that are focused on endangered species such as sharks, sea turtles and rays. In addition to conducting research projects, ecOceanica develops marine outreach programs to raise local communities, academic institutions and the general public awareness about the importance of having healthy marine ecosystems.
