Centro Ecoceanos for Conservation and Sustainable Development, is an independent, non governmental, non-profit organization based in Chile, working to promote conservation and sustainable management of coastal and ocean ecosystems, the strengthening of public participation in decision-making related to those ecosystems, and the sustainable development of artisanal fisheries and local costal communities.Through the development of research projects, environmental education, communication activities, and citizens’ campaigns for environmental protection, Centro Ecoceanos has been encouraging public engagement in issues affecting costal and ocean ecosystems both at the local level and worldwide. In this context, Centro Ecoceanos actively supports the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition’s call for a moratorium on bottom trawling activities on the high seas.
