Deep Sea Conservation Coalition launch in Argentina

Date: October 25, 2004

Coalition member, CeDePesca, hosted a workshop in Buenos Aires for NGOs, scientists, the fishing industry and government representatives to discuss the need for a high seas moratorium on bottom trawl fishing.

Most participants came away from the meeting with an appreciation of the importance of the issue and there was general agreement over the course of action advocated by CeDePesca and the DSCC. The following day, in Mar del Plata, Argentina’s main fishing port, the coalition met with Argentina’s leading fisheries research institute (INPE) and the Association of Fishing Vessel Captains of Argentina.
