ICES symposium, 27-30 Apr, Azores, Portugal

High seas bottom trawling has been described as one of the most destructive fishing practices in the deep oceans. Governments from around the world and the United Nations have consistently called for urgent action to be taken. Yet every year it continues. Here's what you can do to help stop it.

Urge Canada to support a high seas bottom trawling

Canadian scientists, celebrities and members of the public are taking to Canada's streets and wharfs to urge Canada's Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Loyola Hearn, to support a moratorium on high seas bottom trawling (known in Canada as dragging). Join them by penning a message to the public and the Canadian government - stand in a symbolic and conspicuous location with your sign and don't forget to send in your photograph. Stop the Clocks!

Stop the clocks!
Ask the ministers of key countries to support a moratorium on high seas bottom trawling and stop the clock on deep sea destruction.

Design a Deep Sea Creature!

Design a Deep Sea Creature for our gallery to show your support for a United Nations moratorium to halt bottom trawling in international waters. Then ask your friends to spread the word by sending your creature or our ready-made e-card to them. This deep sea creature was drawn by Stella.

Help Spread the Word

Send an e-card to friends and family. Or download these posters, photocopy a few (or a lot) and post them in your workplace, community notice boards, school or wherever else you can find a suitable place. Be creative - but please be sensible about where you post them.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER
It is up to you what you do with these posters but the Deep Sea Conservation Coalition does not condone any illegal use. These posters are provided for download on the proviso that they will not be used in an illegal way. It is illegal to affix any poster to a building or structure without the permission of the owner or occupier of that building or structure.

More action
